San Teodoro" Cemetry
In 1814, the viceroy Fernando de Abascal prohibited the custom of burying dead people in the churches, and the cathedral chapter ordered the building of a cemetery located far away of the city. Don Francisco Fernández de Paredes y Noriega and his wife doña María de la Cruz Carrasco y Carrión donated the land and part of the building of the cemetery in loving memory of his dead son. The holy field got the name of "Santo Teodoro" because of their loving son’s saint patron. This cemetery was inaugurated on 28th February in 1838.
In this cemetery, mausoleums considered architectural jewels were built with beautiful marble sculptures, mausoleums of well known personages like José Antonio Euguren.
